Pages Upgrade has Business Appeal

It should come as no surprise after the introduction of Places Pages and the redesign of Profiles that followed, Pages for Business would see their turn.

But this isn't just a simple redesign and layout change. Look closely, as there are some fundamental changes in the way Pages will do business. This is the second big effort we've seen at capturing business communities since Groups got its upgrade several months ago.

Particular big features added to the Pages toolbox are evidence Fb is ever attempting to break the barrier for the remaining businesses not yet adopting a Page into their integrated marketing efforts, and others keeping it on internet "Block" lists at work.

A general look at upgraded features include:
  •  Showcase of Latest Photos
  •  Tabs transitioned to Left-side Navigation Bar
  •  Featured Wall Posts
  •  Feature Admins
  •  Feature Favorite Pages
  •  Interact with other Pages
  •  Receive Notifications for Page

It's the final two features that will really hit for a big win in the business community. It comes down to separation of business and pleasure, and data capture.

Allowing Pages to interact with each other expands reach and awareness – a big win in itself. But it's the mechanics behind this functionality which will have some employers uber-stoked, placing a physical barrier between personal profiles and business page profiles.

By using Facebook as a Page, you're transitioned from your personal profile to the identity of the Business Page. This does several things. You may Like and comment on other Pages. The Page's homepage has a news feed of updates from the brand's Favorite Pages and connections. And notifications become those of the Page.

Meaning, no distractions.

From new comments on your profile picture. From friends who change their relationship status. Even pesky chat windows popping up in the bottom right corner of the window.
